UpFront: Volunteering Around the World

This year, I started the first wonderful trips volunteering my time in different countries. In January, I traveled to Uganda for my 11th trip, working with other healthcare providers on a medical mission. This year, our team consisted of three nurses from the Green Bay and Chicago areas, an internal medicine doctor from Chicago, a pharmacy technician from Green Bay, and, of course, me, a pharmacist. While in Uganda, we stayed on the campus of St John XXIII Hospital in Aber. We spent time around the hospital doing the following:

This year, our team consisted of three nurses from the Green Bay and Chicago areas, an internal medicine doctor from Chicago, a pharmacy technician from Green Bay, and, of course, me, a pharmacist. While in Uganda, we stayed on the campus of St John XXIII Hospital in Aber. We spent time around the hospital doing the following:
- Seeing the different wards
- Reviewing the progress on an updated maternity unit being funded by Medical Aid to Northern Uganda (MANU), a non-profit organization for which I serve as a board member
- Handing out hand-sewn diapers, baby clothes, and newborn hats
- Serving a meal to hospital patients
- Presenting continuing education on asthma
