Learning Objectives:
Abstract:
Pharmacy stewardship programs have been the driving force of practice expansion over the past decades. While pharmacist-directed stewardship programs have traditionally emphasized antimicrobial optimization, pharmacists and pharmacy technicians now play integral roles across diverse care settings, including emergency departments, perioperative care, ambulatory and community care, and chronic disease management, enabling a multifaceted expansion of clinical services through stewardship
initiatives. While these services allow for the expansion of pharmacy integration into patient care, developing and implementing new pharmacy services is challenging. This continuing education article explores a framework for pharmacy service implementation and expands on successes and failures through real-world examples of strategies used at Aurora BayCare Medical Center to promote pharmacy stewardship initiatives.
