Advancing Entrustable Professional Activities: 2025 ACPE Accreditation Updates for Pharmacy Preceptors
by Christian McCaughey, 2026 PharmD Candidate, Tiffany Preda, 2026 PharmD Candidate
Abstract:
The Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education 2025 Accreditation Standards represent a transformative shift in pharmacy education by integrating Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs) into competency-based frameworks. Aligning with the 2022 American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy Curricular Outcomes and EPAs, these standards prioritize observable, practice-based tasks to ensure graduates are practice-ready. This article explores the 13 core EPAs and provides practical strategies for preceptors to implement them across diverse experiential settings. This transitions the numerical grading of student performance to qualitative grading based on various entrustment levels. Ultimately, this EPA-based approach allows for academic institutions to standardize assessments and bridge the gap between academic preparation and interprofessional pharmacy practice.
